The New Craving: Stillness
Did you know I listen to Yoga Nidra every single night? It’s my go-to bedtime ritual—the one thing that slows my thoughts, softens my breath, and gently drops me into deep rest. If I could combine it with a sound bath at home, I absolutely would (sadly my husband isn’t up for it!).
All my healing instruments—crystal bowls, gongs, chimes—live at the studio. And maybe that’s part of why I love sharing them so much. Our Sound Bath and Yoga Nidra classes in Bedford have become some of the most popular sessions we run. They sell out every time, which tells me something:
In a world of overstimulation—constant scrolling, noise, and busyness—our bodies and minds are craving deep rest.
And when people finally find that stillness? It’s like a gym for the mind, but instead of lifting weights, you lay them down.
Why Are Sound Healing & Yoga Nidra So Popular Right Now?
Not long ago, most people had never heard of sound baths or Yoga Nidra for sleep. Now, they’re everywhere—from boutique yoga studios to wellness retreats, festivals, and even corporate events.
Here’s why:
We’re collectively exhausted. Burnout, anxiety, and stress are everywhere. Traditional “relaxation” isn’t enough—we need something deeper, something that soothes the nervous system.
Science is catching up. Studies on vibration therapy and guided meditation confirm what yogis have known for centuries: these practices reduce cortisol, calm the mind, and restore balance.
The wellness shift. People are moving from fitness-focused goals to nervous system healing practices—not “how hard can I push” but “how safe do I feel in my own body?”
We’re craving community. Group sound baths recreate something primal—resting together, breathing together, remembering how to be human together.

The Science of Sound Healing
Sound healing works through vibration and resonance. Every cell in your body vibrates at its own frequency. When you’re stressed, that frequency becomes chaotic. Instruments like crystal bowls and gongs produce pure, harmonious tones that help bring your body back into balance.
Water: The Conductor of Vibration
Here’s where it gets fascinating—your body is mostly water:
Women: about 50–55% water
Men: about 60% water
Babies: up to 75% water
Even as we age, we remain fluid beings—walking oceans. And water is one of the best conductors of sound. That’s why, in a sound bath, you don’t just hear the tones—you feel them. Vibrations ripple through your cells, soothing your nervous system like waves across a lake.
This is also why floating sound baths are so powerful. When you’re suspended in water, sound doesn’t just meet your ears—it surrounds you, passes through you. It’s womb-like, primal, deeply healing.
Yoga Nidra: Yogic Sleep for Modern Stress
Yoga Nidra, often called “yogic sleep,” is a guided practice where you lie down, close your eyes, and are taken on a journey into deep relaxation. It activates the parasympathetic nervous system—the body’s rest-and-digest mode—making it one of the most effective tools for stress relief and better sleep.
My Nightly Ritual
Personally, Yoga Nidra is my medicine. Every night before bed, I press play on a recording. Within minutes, my breath slows, my body softens, and my mind lets go. It’s like clearing the clutter before sleep. My nights are deeper, my mornings lighter.
I recommend it to anyone who feels overwhelmed, anxious, or burnt out—because you don’t have to “try” to do it. You just show up, lie down, and receive.
“Gym for the Mind”
I call these practices the gym for your mind—but instead of effort, you practice the art of letting go:
To pause.
To soften.
To receive.
In our culture, rest is often labelled lazy. But here’s the truth: rest is repair. Deep rest is where the nervous system resets, hormones rebalance, and healing begins.
My Floating Sound Bath in Tenerife
On my recent holiday in Tenerife, I finally experienced something I’d been curious about for years: a floating sound bath.
Imagine this: You’re weightless in warm water, eyes covered, gentle ripples rocking you. Crystal bowls sing through the pool. Your head and feet are massaged with essential oils.
There’s no gravity, no phone, no thought of time—just sound, water, and breath. It felt like floating in space.
I loved it so much I knew I had to bring it to my community. So at our Renew & Thrive Retreat in Spain this September, we’re introducing this exact session. Our 20-metre pool can hold 18 people floating at once—it’s going to be unforgettable.
Benefits You’ll Actually Feel
Both sound healing and Yoga Nidra bring benefits you can feel immediately:
Stress melts away. Cortisol drops, the body softens.
Sleep improves. Many people say it’s the best sleep they’ve had in months.
Emotions release. Tears sometimes come—not sadness, but letting go.
Clarity arises. Insights often surface when the mind is finally still.
The body resets. Blood pressure lowers, heart rate steadies, tension eases.
How to Prepare for a Sound Bath & Yoga Nidra Session
Wear pyjamas or the comfiest clothes you own (I mean it!).
Bring water, warm socks, maybe a blanket.
Come with a light stomach—hydrated, but not full.
Set an intention, or come with none—just be open.
Most importantly? Drop expectations. No two sessions feel the same, and that’s part of the magic.
