Getting Back Into Yoga: Find Your Rhythm at YWL Bedford

6 min read

There’s something about September that always feels like a fresh start.

After the freedom and spontaneity of summer, September brings us naturally back towards routine. Holidays finish, children go back to school, diaries begin to settle, and we start thinking again about the things that help us feel good in ourselves.

For many of us, yoga is one of those things.

Maybe your practice became less regular over the summer, or perhaps it disappeared completely. Maybe you’ve been meaning to get back into yoga for months but life has simply kept getting in the way. Wherever you are right now, September can be a beautiful opportunity to return to your mat, without pressure, guilt or another impossible promise to yourself about everything you should be doing.

Because I don’t believe your yoga practice should be another thing on your to-do list. I believe it should be something that supports you in living your life.

So rather than asking yourself how many yoga classes you should be doing every week, start with a much simpler question:

What do I need from my practice right now?

Maybe you need more energy or want to feel stronger in your body. Perhaps you’re craving flexibility and space after sitting at a desk all day, or life feels incredibly full and what you really need is an hour to slow down, breathe and come back to yourself.

Your answer might be different next week, and that is exactly the point.

At YWL, our full timetable of yoga classes in Bedford is back, with 11 weekly classes and 5 monthly Beyond Yoga experiences, so you can create a yoga routine that supports you rather than trying to fit yourself into one.

Choose Your Yoga Practice Based on What You Need

One of the things I love most about yoga is that it can meet us in so many different places.

There are days when moving, sweating and challenging ourselves feels incredible, and there are days when our bodies and nervous systems are asking us to do the complete opposite. A sustainable yoga practice makes room for both.

When You Want Strength, Mobility and Energy

If you’re craving movement and want to feel strong and energised, our more dynamic yoga classes give you plenty of opportunity to explore what your body can do.

Rocket Yoga is our stronger, playful practice, bringing together flowing sequences, strength, balances and challenge. Animal Flow takes us into primal, ground-based movement, developing strength, mobility, coordination and body control while exploring movements we rarely use in everyday life.

Our Sunday morning Let It Go Flow gives you space to move, breathe, release the week and begin your Sunday feeling lighter and more alive.

You don’t have to already be strong, flexible or experienced to explore a stronger practice. We practise these things because we want to build them, and every body starts somewhere.

When You Want Movement, Stretching and Flexibility

Sometimes we still want to move, but our bodies are asking for a little more space and softness.

Flow & Stretch combines energising Vinyasa yoga with deeper stretching, so you get that beautiful feeling of having moved your whole body while also releasing some of the tension you’ve been carrying.

Flow + Yin brings together flowing movement and the slower world of Yin yoga, where poses are held for longer and we allow ourselves time to soften rather than constantly push.

These classes are wonderful when you want the balance of movement and stillness, and you want to leave feeling both energised and more open in your body.

When You Need Calm, Softness and Rest

Then there are weeks when life has already asked enough of us.

Those are often the moments when we think we should skip yoga because we don’t have the energy, when actually we might simply need a different kind of practice.

Gentle Restoration, Renew & Revive and Unwind Flow offer space to move more mindfully, stretch, breathe, release tension and allow everything to slow down.

I think this is such an important part of yoga that we sometimes forget. Your practice doesn’t always need to challenge you or make you sweat to be valuable. Sometimes the most nourishing practice is the one that gives you permission to stop pushing for an hour and simply spend some time with yourself.

Haven’t Practised Yoga for a While? Just Come Back

If you’ve been away from yoga for a while, I know how easy it is to feel as though you need to get yourself “back into shape” before you return to class.

Please don’t wait for that.

Whether it has been three weeks, six months or several years since you last stepped onto a yoga mat, you are welcome to come exactly as you are.

You might feel a little stiffer than you remember or discover that your balance isn’t quite where it used to be, and that’s completely okay. Yoga isn’t something we need to perfect before we are allowed to enjoy it.

Your practice will meet you where you are now, not where you were the last time you practised.

And often, after that first class back, there is this lovely moment when you remember why you came in the first place: not because you performed every pose perfectly, but because of how you feel afterwards.

How Often Should You Practise Yoga?

This is something people ask me all the time, and I genuinely don’t believe there is one perfect answer.

A meaningful yoga routine isn’t necessarily about practising every day. For many people, one class that becomes a consistent part of their week can make a huge difference, especially when it becomes time they genuinely look forward to.

For someone else, two classes might feel right, perhaps combining one stronger Vinyasa or Rocket Yoga class with something slower and more restorative. During particularly busy weeks, your practice might simply be the class that helps you stop and reset.

I would much rather you build a yoga routine that fits your actual life than create an ambitious routine that lasts for two weeks.

One way to think about your practice is simply:

Move → Stretch → Rest

Choose movement when you have energy, stretching when your body is craving space and rest when life feels full. Your yoga practice can change with your energy, your schedule, your body and the season you’re in.

Consistency doesn’t have to mean doing exactly the same thing every week. Sometimes consistency simply means continuing to return to the things that make you feel like yourself.

Go Beyond Your Weekly Yoga Class

Alongside our weekly yoga classes in Bedford, our monthly Beyond Yoga experiences create an opportunity to explore some of these practices more deeply.

Yin for Deep Flexibility gives us time for longer, slower stretches and deeper release. Sound Bath + Yoga Nidra is there for the moments when you need to completely switch off and allow yourself to be guided into deep rest, while Breathwork gives us the opportunity to work consciously with the breath, shift energy and reconnect with ourselves.

I love thinking about a regular weekly class as the anchor of your practice, with a monthly experience creating space for a deeper reset when you need one.

Build a Yoga Routine Around Your Real Life

The best routine isn’t the most impressive one. It’s the one you can actually live.

Maybe Monday evening becomes the moment you leave work and everything else behind for an hour. Perhaps Sunday morning becomes your space to move before the rest of the day begins, or you discover that what works best for you is one stronger practice and one slower class each week.

There will also be weeks when everything changes, because that is life.

You don’t need to start again every time your routine gets interrupted. You simply return.

That, for me, is one of the most beautiful lessons yoga teaches us. We lose our balance and find it again. We get distracted and return to our breath. We fall out of routines and then, when we’re ready, we come back to the mat.

Find Your Yoga Rhythm at YWL Bedford

September doesn’t need to be about reinventing yourself or suddenly becoming a completely new person.

It can simply be an opportunity to return to some of the things that make you feel good, and to make a little more space for yourself again.

With 11 weekly yoga classes in Bedford and 5 monthly Beyond Yoga experiences at YWL, you can explore strength, mobility, Vinyasa yoga, flexibility, Yin, restorative practices, breathwork, sound baths and deep rest, choosing what supports you in the season you’re actually in.

Our different membership options are there to support different rhythms too, whether yoga becomes your once-a-week reset, you want to practise several times a week, or you prefer the freedom to explore different classes and experiences.

There is no perfect yoga routine waiting for you to figure it out. Start with what you need, choose the class that feels right and give yourself permission to begin there.

Because sometimes the hardest part really is just booking that first class and walking through the door. Once you are back on your mat, breathing, moving and surrounded by your community, you might remember just how much you missed it.

Find your rhythm. Make space for yourself. Come back to your mat.

We’ll see you there.

Love,

Lenka & Sarah x

"Being fairly new to Bedford, and Aussie expats no less, my partner and I have been so happily surprised to find this exceptional offering. More than "just yoga", The instructors are so lovely and experienced and add a special and personal touch. Finding Yoga With Lenka has not only got me back into a healthy Yoga practice, but the classes are genuinely something I look forward to - this is coming from someone who is not prone to "loving exercise" ;-) ...but these classes and community make it fun. I can honestly say this is the best Yoga practice I've engaged in both in the UK (including in London) and Australia - well done Lenka and team.

Highly recommended."

"Yoga with Lenka is the best class (and community) you should join if you’re a newbie and want to learn yoga like me in the heart of Bedford. Every session is a learning experience for me and I love that Lenka/Jamie were both so patient and engaging when I needed help during my practices. I always look forward to attending every session as it makes me feel good by having that self-awareness through meditation and gives my body the exercise it needs. Overall, I highly recommend attending yoga classes here."
